It’s Money That Matters

Kyrsten Sinema, recent cosplayer at the State of the Union Screamathon, while not veering into the Kompletely Krazy realm that has become the norm for the GOP, nevertheless could not sign on to Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction legislation last year unless Democrats agreed to preserve the Carried Interest Rule under the tax code. This rule ensures that corporate raiders pay trivial taxes on the profits they enjoy while dismantling the companies they’ve “invested” in.

Sinema, then a “Democrat,” was willing to make this capstone of greed the hill she’d die on politically.

It’s always been about money. Guns, military contractors, big pharma and oil (and Wall Street) have fueled Right Wing politics for decades. Republicans want to “keep” what they’ve “earned.” Taxes bring real tears to their eyes, poor things. (Crocodile tears are reserved for the kids getting mowed down in schools.)

The Kongressional Klown Kaucus serves the same purpose. Just as rodeos employ clowns to distract the bulls when a rider is in trouble, the “useful idiots” help us to unsee the gerrymandering, the stolen Supreme Court, the decimation of public education, the intentional meanness of the “anti-woke” mob, the failure of the American medical system.
